Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

Edinburg, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes beefed up their line-up today after signing former Harlingen WhiteWings' slugger Argelis Nunez and former MLB draftee Brandon McConnell.

After Nunez was released by the WhiteWings on Monday, Coyotes manager Vince Moore pounced on the opportunity to pick up a quality outfielder in Nunez who had the most homeruns for his former Harlingen team with 9. Nunez was batting .294 when he left the WhiteWings and has 58 hits with 40 RBIs for the 2008 season. Nunez will be the clean-up hitter for the Coyotes and will bring much needed power to the line-up.

Coyotes also were able to land a gem with the signing of McConnell earlier today. McConnell was selected in the eighth round of 2003 draft by the Minnesota Twins Organization. From 2003 to 2006, he pitched for the Twins' single A organization and posted 5.10 ERA with a career 112 strikeouts. In 2007, he played for the Seattle Mariners single A affiliate where he switched positions to the outfield. He batted .274 at the end of the year. This year, he has played for Wichita, Grand Prairie and El Paso organizations from the American Association. His last stop was in El Paso where he played in five games and had five hits with one homerun. McConnell will bat third in the line-up for the Coyotes.

"I believe our line-up is really starting to shape up," Assistant General Manager Omar Ortiz said. "Vince is doing a great job trying to piece together a quality team that will hopefully make a run for that final playoff spot."
