
Colts outlast Broncos

San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had plenty of offense but not enough pitching as they fell to the San Angelo Colts by the score of 13-9 on Tuesday in San Angelo. The Broncos continue their 8 game road trip, with the middle game of a 3 game set with the San Angelo Colts on Wednesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Colts would get on the scoreboard first in the 1st inning. John Anderson led off with a single. Then after an out, Jose Torres hit a 2 run home run, his 10th of the season. With 2 outs, Aaron Cone connected on a solo home run, his 6th of the season. That gave San Angelo the early 3-0 lead.
Gregorio Martinez would leave the game after 1 inning of work. No reason was specified, but during the first inning manager Dan Shwam and the trainer came out to take a look at Martinez. Martinez gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, he walked 1 and struck out 1 in his shortest outing of the year.
The Broncos would get their first score in the 3rd inning. With one out, Anthony Bennett walked and then went to 3rd on a single by Steven Wright. Arnoldo Ponce then hit a ball to 2nd baseman John Anderson who booted it allowing Bennett to score and moving Wright to 2nd. Dwayne White would then double scoring Wright and moving Ponce to 3rd. Then Edgard Clemente grounded out, but Ponce scored to tie the game at 3.
The Colts would then explode offensively in their half of the 3rd. Andres Rodriguez led off the inning with a solo home run, his 10th of the season. That was followed by another solo home run by Aaron Cone his 2nd of the game and 7th of the season. After 1 out, Bryan Frichter hit a triple. That was followed by a walk to Wyn Diggs. Charley Belew would then drive in Frichter with a sacrifice fly. John Anderson would then double advancing Diggs to 3rd. Tyrone Pendergrass would then single scoring Diggs and moving Anderson to 3rd. That was followed by a double by Jose Torres scoring Anderson and moving Pendergrass to 3rd. Andres Rodriguez would then walk to load the bases. Aaron Cone would then connect for a grand slam home run, his 3rd of the game, 2nd of the inning against Crawford, and his 8th overall. Dan Sausville would then come into the game and get Jason Crosland to ground out to end the inning. San Angelo would have the lead by the score of 12-3.
The Broncos would get closer in the top of the 4th. With one out Ivan Reyes would single. Then with 2 away Anthony Bennett would double moving Reyes to 3rd. As Bennett went into 2nd the ball thrown by left fielder Jose Torres got by everybody and into the Broncos dugout to allow both Reyes and Bennett to score. Steven Wright and Arnoldo Ponce would then single to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Dwayne White would then connect on a 3 run home run his 8th of the season. That would chase Colts starter Luke Massetti as he would only last 3 2/3 of an inning. Billy McKinney would come in and give up a single to Edgard Clemente, but got Luany Sanchez to fly out to end the inning. Laredo now trailed by only 4 runs as the score was 12-8.
San Angelo would get a run back in the bottom of the 5th. Jose Torres was hit by a pitch and then stole 2nd base. After a flyout moved him to 3rd, Torres would score on a single by Aaron Cone which made the score 13-8.
The Broncos would get a run in the 7th inning on a solo home run by Edgard Clemente, his 10th of the season. That would make the score 13-9.
Laredo would threaten in the 8th inning when Anthony Bennett and Steven Wright hit back to back singles with no one out. But Arnoldo Ponce would ground into a double play and Dwayne White would strike out to end the inning. That would keep the Broncos trailing by 4.
David Watkins, Rusty Jones and David Wasylak would pitch scoreless 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. In their 3 innings the pitchers combined to strike out 7 of the 11 men they faced.
Mitchell Lively would come in to finish out the game for the Colts. The Broncos were not able to do any damage against him as the Broncos lost by the score of 13-9
The Broncos scored 9 runs on 13 hits and committed 0 errors, while the Colts scored 13 runs on 17 hits and committed 2 errors.
The Broncos fall to 28-27 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Thursday night when they play game 2 of a 3 game set against the San Angelo Colts at 7:05.
