Coyotes Recall Ramzi Abid from Falcons

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons announced today that the Phoenix Coyotes have recalled left winger Ramzi Abid from the Falcons. Abid will join the Coyotes in Carolina tonight as Phoenix battles the Hurricanes.

This will be Abid's first recall to the National Hockey League. Abid is tied for the Falcons team lead in scoring with six goals and six assists for 12 points in 14 games played. He also leads Springfield in goals (6), power play goals (5), and shots on goal (43). Abid started the season on a seven-game scoring streak, a Falcons season high.

The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of Montreal, Quebec played in 66 games for the Falcons during the 2001-02 season collecting 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points and 214 penalty minutes. He finished last season ranked 4th on the team in assists and points and tied for fourth in goals and power play goals (7). He won the Falcons "Players Player Award" last season. Abid was the Phoenix Coyotes' 3rd choice (85th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Abid split his junior career between Chicoutimi, Acadie-Bathurst and Halifax in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He had his most productive season during his last season of junior hockey (1999-00) when he registered 67 goals and 91 assists for 158 points and 209 penalty minutes in 72 games split between Acadie-Bathurst and Halifax. He finished 2nd in the QMJHL in scoring that season. Abid was the MVP of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League during the 1997-98 campaign when he collected 50 goals and 85 assists for 135 points in 68 games. He was a CHL and QMJHL First-Team All-Star in 1999-00.
