
Ottawa Assigns Defenseman Rachunek To Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, NY â The Binghamton Senators announced today that they have received defenseman Karel Rachunek (rah-KOO-nehk) from the Ottawa Senators (NHL) on a conditioning assignment. Rachunek came to terms with Ottawa on a 2-year contract this past weekend.
The 23-year old native of the Czech Republic trained in late August and September with his country's national team, appearing in four games at the Ceska Pojistovna Cup. Rachunek then played several games with Russian league champions, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, but returned to train in the Czech Republic in early October.
During the 2001-02 season, Rachunek had 18 points (3-15) and 24 penalty minutes in 51 games with the Senators. His three goals tied a career season high reached in 2000-01. He also appeared in the 2002 Topps/NHL Young Stars game as part of All-Star weekend, earning one assist a +3 rating for Team Fox. He missed 31 games during the season due to back and shoulder injuries.
In two-plus seasons with Ottawa, Rachunek has six goals, 45 assists and 86 penalty minutes in 128 games played.
