
Coyotes Recall MacLean And Schlemko, Rampage Add Pokulok To Roster

SAN ANTONIO (February 23, 2010) - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman David Schlemko and forward Brett MacLean from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In addition, the Rampage have signed defenseman Sasha Pokulok to a professional try-out (PTO) contract.
Schlemko, 22, has appeared in 17 games for the Coyotes this season, recording 1-4-5 and eight penalty minutes (PIM). He scored his first NHL goal for the Coyotes in a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Nov. 14, 2009. Schlemko has also played in 36 games with San Antonio this season, collecting 3-12-15 and 18 PIM. Last year, he ranked 2nd among Rampage defensemen in scoring with 7-22-29 in 68 games. He also appeared in three games with the Coyotes and registered one assist for his first NHL point.
In 105 career AHL games, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Schlemko has recorded 10-34-44 and 42 PIM. In 2007-08, he appeared in 58 games with the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League (CHL) and collected 10-29-39 and 24 PIM. Schlemko also registered 3-5-8 in 14 playoff games to help lead the Sundogs to the 2008 Ray Miron President's Cup Championship. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Schlemko originally signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on July 19, 2007.
MacLean, 21, has registered 24-21-45 in 55 games with San Antonio this season to lead the team in both goals and points. His 24 goals also rank him T-7th in the AHL. In 2008-09, his first professional season, MacLean ranked 2nd on San Antonio in goals (21) and 5th in points (40) while appearing in 74 games. He also represented the Rampage at the 2009 AHL All-Star Game.
During the 2007-08 campaign, MacLean led the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with 61 goals in 61 games while playing for the Oshawa Generals. He finished with 61-58-119 and 42 PIM while also ranking 2nd in points (119) and 9th in assists (58). The 6-foot-2, 200-pound MacLean spent four seasons in the OHL and was a two-time Eastern Conference All-Star. In 245 career OHL games with Erie and Oshawa, he collected 131-157-288 and 151 PIM. He also recorded 12-21-33 and 27 PIM in 28 playoff career playoff games. MacLean was drafted by the Coyotes in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2007 Entry Draft.
Pokulok, 23, joins the Rampage from the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL) where he has scored 11 goals, 17 assists and posted a plus-9 rating in 39 games this season. He has amassed 16 goals, 38 assists and a plus-28 rating in 83 career ECHL games over the span of four seasons with South Carolina and Bakersfield. In 2009 he was a member of the Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays in which he made 11 playoff appearances and posted four assists.
The Montreal, Quebec native has appeared in 60 career AHL games recording one goal and 11 assists over the course of four seasons with Hershey and Springfield.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound blueliner collected seven goals and 16 assists in 53 games with Cornell University (NCAA, 2004-06). He was selected in the first round (14th overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
The Rampage will complete their 14-game road trip with a stop in Michigan tomorrow for a 6 p.m. (CDT) puck drop against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Van Andel Arena.
