Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas- After blowing out the Laredo Broncos (21-21) in Game 1 and 2, the Edinburg Coyotes (16-26) were shutout 9-0 in front of 3,921 fans Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Despite taking the series from the Broncos, Coyotes were unable to establish an offense rhythm throughout their series finale. They banged out nine hits but left 13 runners on base.
Coyotes starting pitcher Miguel Martinez (4-2) was roughed up in his 4 1/3 innings of play as he allowed seven runs on eight hits on his way to picking up his second loss of the season. Andy Schon (4-2) pitched a complete game shutout as he struck out nine while picking up his fourth win of the season.
With the Broncos leading by one heading into the third, Broncos' outfielder Stephen Wright hit an RBI double to bring in Eric Padilla from first to give them a 2-0 lead. Three batters later, Edgard Clemente, nephew of MLB hall of famer Roberto Clemente, hit a two-run RBI double to center field to bring in Wright from third and Dwayne White from first giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead in the third. Broncos added another run in the fourth after Mark Perez singled to right field bringing in Matt Lawman from second to give them a 5-0 lead.
Broncos didn't let up in the next inning as they posted another two more runs off of two hits. Clemente had an RBI ground out and Ben Tinius hit an RBI single to center to give the Broncos a comfortable seven run lead. Coyotes continued to struggle as the Broncos added another run in the top of the sixth and added another in the ninth after a solo homer from Tinius.
Coyotes take on the Harlingen WhiteWings in Game 1 of a three-game series tomorrow night at Harlingen Field. First pitch is set for 7:05.
