
Coyotes lose big to rival

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (10-17) suffered another crippling loss at the hands of the Harlingen WhiteWings (11-17) falling 14-6 Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The WhiteWings jumped to an 11-0 lead in the first two innings of play off of Coyotes' starting pitcher John Maschino (0-2) who only lasted 1 2/3 innings. Angel Cordero (1-0) picked up his first win for his team as he struck out six batters in five innings of play. In the first inning, WhiteWings drew back-to-back walks from Maschino. Brian Nichols then hit an RBI single to center field scoring Argelis Nunez from second and advancing Ryan Fox to third. David Fowler then hit a three-run bomb over the left field fence to extend the lead to four.
The WhiteWings broke the game in half after posting up seven runs on only three hits as they took an 11-0 lead in the second inning. Terry Roblez hit his first triple of the season during the inning that brought in three runners.
In the bottom the frame, Coyotes first baseman Daryl Jones scored from third on a wild pitch from Cordero. Coyotes struck again in the third inning after a two-run homer from MayoBanex Santana that brought in Bric Steed from third. The homerun was the first of the season for the Coyotes' third baseman. The Coyotes racked in another run in the fourth inning after Eddie Wilson singled to left bringing in Eric Gonzalez. In the next inning, Jones hit a towering solo homerun over the left field wall that shrunk the lead to six. It was his fourth homerun of the season.
With four scoreless innings for the WhiteWings, they stretched their lead to nine after they brought in three runs off of two hits. The Coyotes put up another run in the seventh inning but the WhiteWings played stout defense not allowing another run throughout the rest of the game.
Coyotes and WhiteWings play again tomorrow night at 7:05 in Game 2 of their three-game series. Aaron Guerra is expected to take the mound for the Coyotes and Kenneth Evonuik is starting for the WhiteWings.
