San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Brian Henschel continued the San Angelo Colts' recent string of solid starting pitching performances, dominating the first-place Amarillo Dillas with a complete game five-hit shutout, as San Angelo scored six runs early and coasted to a 7-0 victory. Henschel (1-2) struck out seven and only walked one as he got his first win of the season before 1,623 at Foster Field.

The Colts (16-12) scored three runs in the second inning, with Wyn Diggs' two-run double capping off the scoring against Taylor Allen (2-2). Aaron Cone provided all the thunder in the third, with a three-run homer to the opposite field, his second of the year, to double the Colts lead to 6-0. Allen ended up going the distance for Amarillo (17-8), giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits.

Cone, Benny Craig, and Diggs all picked up a pair of hits for the Colts, who closed to within 2.5 games of first-place Amarillo. San Angelo's final run came in the sixth inning, when Charley Belew hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Jose Torres, who led off with a double.

But the story was Henschel, who retired 14 of the last 15 he faced, including 13 in a row until Danny Bravo singled with two outs in the ninth. He held the ULB's leading hitter coming into play, Gary Schneidmiller, to no hits in four at-bats, and only allowed one runner to reach third base and two to second on the night. It was the fourth start in a row where the right-hander went at least six innings.

Notes: Henschel joined Luke Massetti (seven plus innings) and Frank James (eight) as Colts starters with strong outings this week...Tyrone Pendergrass and Andres Rodriguez each extended their streaks of reaching base to 25 consecutive games, keeping pace with Bravo for the longest ULB streak...after the first nine innings yesterday took 2:25, this game was even quicker, taking 2:09, by far the shortest Colts game this season.

The Colts continue this nine-game homestand with game two of this three-game series against the Amarillo Dillas at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, June 12. Tomorrow's game is a Miller Lite "Thirsty Thursday," when 16 oz. bottles of beer are just $2.

Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
