State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The State College Spikes' Opening Week continues at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with an array of exciting activities at the ballpark. The Spikes will take on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians) during each of the weekend's three games.
The jam-packed schedule begins on Friday with Make-A-Wish Night, presented by AccuWeather.com, during the Spikes' 7:05 p.m. matchup against Mahoning Valley. The Spikes help fulfill the wishes of several Make-A-Wish families and recognize those who have contributed so much to making their dreams come true through Make-A-Wish of Greater PA and Southern WV.
The Spikes will also use special blue bats during the game, and those bats will be auctioned off on the concourse in a special Game-Used Bat Auction to benefit Make-A-Wish. Plus, WWE legend Jimmy Hart will be on hand for a one-hour public autograph session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game. Proceeds raised during the night will help fulfill the fondest wishes of Centre County area children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Saturday, the Spikes and Scrappers meet for a 7:05 p.m. game, and fans will sure enjoy the antics of Team GhostRiders as the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo makes its return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, presented by Metzger Animal Hospital. The tandems of monkeys and dogs will perform between-inning skits during the game, and fans can get an up-close look at the performers after the game.
Sunday, the Opening Week schedule concludes as the Spikes finish their series with the Scrappers in a 6:05 p.m. contest. The skies over Happy Valley will light up with a Disney-Themed post-game FIREWORKS display on the inaugural Family Fireworks Funday, presented by First National Bank.
Fans can also participate a pre-game catch on the field from 5-5:30 p.m. and meet the 2012 Spikes during the "Meet the Team" Autograph Session on the concourse beginning at 5 p.m. Season ticket holders will have early access to both activities starting at 4:45 p.m.
Fans can also celebrate the life and times of Justin Bieber this Sunday on Bieber Fever Night on Sunday. The Spikes will pay homage to the on-going Justin Bieber craze with music, dancing and video highlights.
