Renegades Run Away from Birds, 6-3

The Renegades took an early lead on Thursday night, with only one out 1B Luke Maile stepped up to the plate and hit a pop fly to center field allowing Ryan Dunn and Marty Gantt to round third and score. Following a 3-2 count at the plate, Maile was caught stealing home by Dudley Leonora. The combined efforts of P Mark Blackmar, 1B Joe Velleggia, C Sam Kimmel and 3B Leonora ended the inning.

Leonora hit a pop fly off the center field wall in the second inning bringing SS Joel Hutter home, scoring the first run of the game for the IronBirds.

Renegades kicked off the top of the 4th inning with a line drive by Maile to center field. DH Justin O'Conner hit into a double, sending Maile from third to home, bringing the score to 3-1.

Severna Park, MD native and University of Maryland product Sander Beck played his first full inning at the top of the 6th earning two strikeouts.

Against new pitcher, Bobby Wilkins, Williams sent a ground ball to right field and brought home Dunn and Gantt. A double by Reginatto moved Caminero to home base and gaining the Renegades final run of the inning and the score to 6-1.

At the bottom of the 8th inning Roberto Ortiz hit a ground ball single sending Roderick Bernadina to home. A RBI by Joel Hutter brought Joe Velleggia home making the final score 6-3.

Ryan Garton picked up the win for the Renegades while the Mark Blackmar got the loss.

The IronBirds welcome the Brooklyn Cyclones to town on Friday night for the start of a three-game series. RHP Juan Guzman will start for Aberdeen while Brooklyn will turn to RHP Julian Hilario. First pitch from Ripken Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network will begin at 6:50 p.m.
