Kalamazoo Wings News Release
After playing an exciting 80-game regular season, both the Kalamazoo Wings and the Rockford IceHogs will begin their playoff run in game one of the best of seven first round series of the 2005 Colonial Cup Playoffs. In the regular season, the K-Wings and IceHogs battled six times, with each team winning three games. The K-Wings defended their home-ice in the regular season by going 2-1-0 against the IceHogs at Wings Stadium.
Despite losing their final two games of the season, the K-Wings finished the regular season strong going 8-2-0 in their final 10 games of the regular season. In round one, the K-Wings will be the fourth seed, which means they will have home-ice advantage in the series against the IceHogs. This playoff series will be the third for the K-Wings franchise and the second since the team relocated to Kalamazoo.
After their best regular season in their franchises history, the Rockford IceHogs are ready for the playoffs. Rockford finished the regular season by going 3-5-2 in their last 10 games; however, one of those victories was against the K-Wings. Tonight will begin the IceHogs third playoff run since moving to Rockford from Thunder Bay, Ontario. This will be Rockford's first appearance in the post season since the 2002-2003 season.
