It's a battle for fourth place as the K-Wings continue their four game home stand as they host the Rockford IceHogs. Kalamazoo enters play tonight two points ahead of Rockford for fourth place in the western conference. Kalamazoo is coming fresh off a 5-3 victory over Quad City last night and will be looking to win two straight home games for the first time this season. Kalamazoo has won the last four meetings at Wings Stadium versus Rockford. The last time the K-Wings lost to the IceHogs in Kalamazoo was a shootout loss back on March 17, 2002. In fact, the last time the K-Wings lost a regulation game to Rockford at Wings Stadium was March 10, 2001, a span of 9 games.

Tonight will mark the end of 6 game road swing for the Rockford. So far the IceHogs are 1-4-0 on the road swing, with their lone victory coming in a shootout win against the Quad City Mallards. The IceHogs are solid defensive team that has received strong goaltending from Ronnie Vogel. Even though, it's early in the season, the IceHogs have felt their share of injuries, as four players will miss tonight's game due to injury, while Raitis Ivanans will be out of the game, as he has been called up the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. Tonight will also be the return to Kalamazoo from Justin Cardwell. Cardwell played last season in Kalamazoo and is a graduate of Western Michigan University. The IceHogs are led offensively by Donnie Margettie and Steve Cygan. Margettie leads the IceHogs is points (15) and assists (10), while Cygan, who is one of the fastest players in the UHL, has shown no signs of a sophomore letup, as he is tied for the team lead in goals with 8.
