TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The eighth of 19 meetings, the fourth of nine here. Richmond has won five of seven, two in shootouts. The IceHawks have won two of three here. Adirondack was the first club to beat Richmond this season. J.J. Wrobel has 10 points vs. the IceHawks. Hugo Belanger has 11 vs. Richmond. Richmond is in a three way first place tie in the Eastern Conference with Flint and Columbus but the âDogs still have the best winning percentage in the UHL. Four clubs are within one point in the East. Adirondack is sixth in the Eastern Conference, one point behind Port Huron. This is the fourth meeting in eight days between these clubs. The last four have all been one goal games.
LAST ACTION: The RiverDogs lost 5-4 to the IceHawks here last night. Richmond rallied after falling behind 2-0 and 3-1 to carry a 4-3 lead into the third period. But Adirondack scored two goals in the final 3:07 to win. Brad Cook scored the game-winner with :02 to play. Jaro Cesky scored two goals. Richard Pitirri, Brian Goudie, and J.J. Wrobel each had a goal and assist for Richmond.
'DOG BITES: Richmond has lost back to back games for the second time this season. The âDogs have not lost three in a row. Tonight's game is the second of a five game homestand. After playing 13 of their first 19 games on the road, they play 15 of their next 17 here. Richmond is second in the league in shots on goal. They are third in goals and PIM. Richmond is 10-0 when scoring first. Kevin St. Jacques is fourth in the UHL in assists. He and Jay Murphy are tied for 11th in points. Jeff Ewasko is third in the league in PIM. Derek Schutz was activated from IR today. The âDogs, who played 17 of their first 19 games short-benched, had a healthy scratch for the first time this season last night. Richmond suffered their first one goal loss and their first loss when leading after two periods last night.
ICEHAWKS NOTES: The IceHawks snapped a four game winless streak last night. Hugo Belanger is second in the UHL in points and assists. Sylvain Cloutier is tied for 11th in the league in points. James Desmarais missed last night's game due to a call-up to Springfield of the AHL. Both IceHawks goalies, Scott Dickie and Lance Leslie are in the UHL's top 10 in goals against average (Dickie is sixth, Leslie is ninth). Trevor Senn leads the league in penalty minutes. Adirondack is second in the UHL in penalty minutes and third in penalty killing. They are 10th in the league in goals for and 12th in shots on goal. Adirondack is in a stretch of eight out of nine games on the road. The IceHawks are 5-2-1 on the road and 3-9-3 at home. Adirondack earned their first win of the season when trailing after two periods here last night.
NEXT UP: The RiverDogs host Ft. Wayne Wednesday at 7:05. It is a Fas mart "Will-Win Wednesday". WHEN the âDogs beat the defending Colonial Cup champions every fan in attendance receives a free ticket to the âDogs next weeknight home game. Adirondack hosts Port Huron Friday.
