Kane County Cougars News Release

CLINTON, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars began an eight-game road trip Thursday night with a 4-3 victory over the Clinton LumberKings. Anthony Capra notched his fourth win, Chad Kerfoot and Leonardo Espinal combined for four shutout relief frames, and Todd Johnson's fifth-inning homer provided the go-ahead run. The road trip is the Cougars' final one of the regular season, and they're now 4-1 in Clinton this season. They've also won six of their last eight games overall.

Adam Klein tripled and scored in the first inning against Ryan Tatusko (2-10) and then smashed a two-run double in the second to give the Cougars a 3-0 cushion. Capra (4-2) allowed three runs in the bottom of the second to make it 3-3, but the LumberKings never scored again. Capra yielded six hits, walked three and fanned three over five innings in his third straight win.

Johnson's homer -- his 13th of the season -- came in leadoff fashion the top of the fifth and became the game's final run. Kerfoot tossed three solid relief innings, and Espinal worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

The Cougars (28-31) and Clinton (30-29) continue the four-game series Friday night at 7 CT. Carlos Hernandez (4-0, 2.63) will face Michael Main (2-1, 2.60).
