Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars (25-25) revived in their final game of the homestand to salvage the double-header and the series against the Cleburne Railroaders (27-21). After falling 5-1 in the first game of the twin bill, the Cougars used Koby Bishop's start and some timely offense to win Game 2 by a score a 6-1 Sunday afternoon from Northwestern Medicine Field.
The Cougars were in danger of suffering their first sweep of the season after scoring just one run in the first game of the double-header, but Josh Allen wouldn't let the offense to continue to slide. With runners at second and third, Allen launched a double off the left field wall to give the Cougars their largest lead of the series 2-0. A few batters later Mark Karaviotis singled home Allen for a 3-0 lead off of Cleburne's starter Stephen Greenlees (1-1).
They continued against Cleburne's bullpen with two more runs in the fourth on a Mitch Reeves homer and another RBI from Allen on a sac fly. Josh Rolette drove in one more run in the 5th on an infield grounder.
Bishop (1-2) flirted with trouble almost every inning, but also pulled through every frame. The Cougar left-hander stranded 11 Railroaders on the bases while tossing five shutout frames for his first win of the year.
In Game 1, Cleburne held on to a lead from their third batter on. Former Cougar Ramon Hernandez had another damaging day, driving in three more runs, including the first score of the day with a sacrifice fly in the 1st. Cougar starter Josh Tols (2-4) limited the damage until the Railroaders charged him for three more runs in the 6th, eventually scoring the final five of the game.
Kacy Clemens' solo shot was the only offense for the Cougars in the first game.
The Cougars now hit the road for a six-game road trip. Their first opponent will be a familiar one, in the Cleburne Railroaders. Cleburne will host the Cougars for three games, before Kane County travels to Kansas City for three more. The games can be found on AABaseball.tv.
