Cougars Receive International Free Agent Pitcher from Taiwan

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, have announced that pitcher Wei-Chieh Huang (pronounced "WAY-jay HWONG") has joined the Cougars from the D-backs' spring training complex in Arizona, taking pitcher Brent Jones' spot on the Cougars' 25-man active roster. The Cougars open a seven-game road trip this evening against Quad Cities in Davenport.

The 21-year old Huang will be making his first professional start in the D-backs system this evening at 7 p.m. against Quad Cities and was signed last summer as an international free agent. Huang was born in Taitung, Taiwan and attended the National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sports. Huang went 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 4 games during the 2012 Taiwan High School National Tournament, and later reached 95 mph during the preliminary round of the 2013 All-Taiwan Games.

In 9 starts this season, Jones is 2-4 with a 3.62 ERA.
