Everett Silvertips News Release

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia - Kicking off the first night of a back to back, the Everett Silvertips were on the wrong end of a 4-3 loss to the Prince George Cougars at the CN Centre on Friday in WHL action before 2,131 fans.

Leading the way for Everett was captain Bryce Kindopp, who scored two goals, while Wyatte Wylie logged a goal and an assist and Cole Fonstad registered the 60th multi point game of his career with two assists. Tyson Upper led Prince George with a goal and an assist.

UP NEXT: The Tips play the second game of their back to back with the Cougars on Saturday, 7:05 p.m. at CN Centre (KRKO / Tips App). They return to the Angel of the Winds Arena on January 12th for their only meeting of the season against the Regina Pats. It's Beanie Hat Giveaway presented by BECU so be sure to get there early as puck drop is 4:05 pm.

The first period was a battle back and forth between both teams. Everett outshot Prince George 17-14 in the opening frame but Cougars forward Tyson Upper got the only goal in the frame. Upper's first goal since November 23rd was a squeaker and the puck just got past Holt but stopped short of the goal line. Upper was there to get it past Holt and put Prince George up 1-0 after twenty minutes.

Everett came out strong in the second and Bryce Kindopp was the main source of that energy. Kindopp scored two goals just 1:02 apart in the middle period to take a 2-1 lead. Kindopp's second goal tied him with Connor Dewar for 5th most all-time goals scored in Everett's history, one behind 4th all-time with Shanc Harper. However, Prince George forward Ethan Samson scored just his second goal of the season to knot it up at 2-2 at the end of the second.

In the third period, Cougars star Vladislav Mikalchuk found the net just 30 second and Prince George would once again have the lead. However, Wyatte Wylie scored his 10th goal of the season at the 8:29 mark of the third to make it a 3-3 game as we entered the home stretch. After Conrad Mitchell was sent to the box for a roughing penalty, Ryan Schoettler scored the eventual game-winner on the powerplay at 10:26 and put Prince George ahead for good by a score of 4-3.

Cougars netminder Taylor Gauthier had a 39 save performance and earned his first victory since December 17th. Tyson Upper was named first star of the night as he got a goal and two assists in his third multi-point game of the season. Ryan Schoettler got third star of the game for getting a goal and an assist as the Cougars finished the night just six points back of the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Bryce Kindopp got the second star for his two-goal effort but Braden Holt made a noticeable impact in his first WHL start. Everyone of his 34 saves were needed to keep Everett in this game.

THREE STARS:

1. Tyson Upper (PG)

2. Bryce Kindopp (EVT)

3. Ryan Schoettler (PG)

NOTES: Scratched from the lineup were Tyson Phare, Carter Halamandaris, Brendan Lee, Martin Fasko-Rudas (World Juniors), and Dustin Wolf (World Juniors) ... Kindopp has scored in 10 of the last 11 games ... Wylie's multi point game was his eighth of the season.
