Kane County Cougars News Release
Clinton, IA - The Kane County Cougars began a four-game series Thursday night against the Clinton LumberKings, a team they hadn't seen since early May, and lost, 11-8, at Alliant Energy Field. Chad Boyd had four hits to lead the offense, but the Cougars' defense made three errors during a costly fourth-inning Clinton rally.
Steve Kleen and Raul Padron each delivered a sacrifice fly early in the game against Clinton starter Juan Jimenez, providing Trey Shields with a 2-0 lead after three innings.
The L'Kings put together four runs in the fourth for a 4-2 score before the Cougars roared back in the fifth. Boyd singled home a run and scored on a wild pitch, Anthony Recker had a sacrifice fly and Kleen plated a teammate for a 6-4 Kane County lead.
Clinton took over afterward, scoring seven times in the next two innings, knocking out Shields in the fifth and continuing to roll against Branden Dewing and Rob Semerano.
Down 11-6 in the seventh, Jeff Baisley scored on a balk, and Matt Sulentic scampered home in the eighth on a double play to complete the production. Dewing (0-1) took his first professional loss, Jon Hollis (1-0) notched a relief win for Clinton and Jose Marte recorded his seventh save.
The Cougars (28-19) and LumberKings (13-34) play again Friday night at 7 CT, as Ken Durost makes his Kane County debut against Kevin Altman (1-7, 5.02).
