Kane County Cougars News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars began a four-game series Saturday night against the Quad Cities River Bandits and suffered a 6-5, 13-inning loss in front of 1,998 at Modern Woodmen Park. At least one team scored in each of the first seven innings, and then nobody scored until the bottom of the 13th when the River Bandits got a bases-loaded walk from outfielder Mitch LeVier, who came in to pitch.
Tied 5-5 after seven innings, the Cougars had numerous chances to take control. They left the bases loaded in the ninth and had runners at first and third in the 12th but could not score. Mickey Storey pitched four scoreless innings and fanned seven in his Cougars debut, and Jamie Richmond pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings to get to the 13th. Then LeVier (0-1) came in to try to save the bullpen. He allowed a one-out double, issued an intentional walk, gave out a free pass and struck out another hitter before the game-deciding walk to Jarred Bogany.
Grant Desme homered and had three hits to lead the Cougars offense. Dusty Coleman, Franklin Hernandez and Petey Paramore also had two hits. The Cougars led 2-1 in the second and 3-1 in the third, but after starter Pedro Figueroa gave up two tallies in the fifth, the Cougars never led again. Figueroa yielded five runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
The Cougars (22-13) and River Bandits (19-15) battle again Sunday afternoon at 1 CDT. Ben Hornbeck (3-0, 1.23) will face Hector Cardenas (3-1, 4.43).
