West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps raced out to a 7-1 lead after two innings and never looked back en route to a 13-6 victory over the Great Lakes Loons in front of 10,023 fans at Fifth Third Ballpark. Jeremy Bonderman started for the ‘Caps on Armed Forces night, and the team thrilled the largest home crowd of the year with their twenty-fourth win of the season.

Bonderman started for the Whitecaps and threw very well. He lasted 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts for the win. The ‘Caps provided plenty of offense to help him out.

West Michigan jumped all over Great Lakes' starter Nathan Eovaldi. The ‘Caps scored 3 runs in the first and 4 in the second; the big blow being Brent Wyatt's first home run of the year. Eovaldi sees his record fall to 1-4 as he gave up 7 earned runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 1 strikeout.

The Loons would get on the board in the second on an RBI ground-out by Nick Buss. But the ‘Caps tacked on another run in the fifth when Wyatt's sacrifice fly brought in Avisail Garcia for a 8-2 lead.

Great Lakes showed signs of coming back in their half of the eighth. Tony Delmonico's two-run double scored Jaime Pedroza and Austin Gallagher for a 8-4 Whitecaps' lead.

But the ‘Caps slammed the door in the bottom of the inning as 5 runs came across home plate; two of them on Jordan Lennerton's two-run double.

Eight of the nine Whitecaps' starters had at least one hit. Gustavo Nunez, Ronnie Bourquin, Billy Nowlin, and Brent Wyatt each had two hits, and Brandon Douglas finished the game three for four. Wyatt and Lennerton each had 3 RBI.

Tony Delmonico totaled 3 hits for the Loons; Jaime Pedroza and Dee Gordon each had two.

Game two of the four game series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark.
