
Cougars Earn First Victory in the Hub

Kelowna, BC - The Prince George Cougars picked up their first win of the RE/MAX HUB season Monday, upending the Victoria Royals 5-3 at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
Connor Bowie paced the attack, registering his first career hat-trick. Riley Heidt scored his first career Western Hockey League goal in the first period, and Ethan Browne scored the game-winner in the second period to snap a 3-3 tie. Ethan Samson and Tyson Upper each chipped in with a pair of assists in the win. Tyler Brennan earned his first win in his first start of the season, kicking out 29 of 32 shots.
The Cougars power-play picked up another two goals Monday, and they now have four power-play goals through two games.
Brandon Cutler, Keanu Derungs, and Tarun Fizer scored for the Royals who have dropped their first two games of the season. Adam Evanoff was tagged with the loss, after he surrendered five goals on 39 shots.
For the second straight game, the Cougars scored three goals in the opening period, as they led 3-2 after 20-minutes. The Royals did tie the game 3-3 early in the middle frame, but Ethan Browne scored the game-winner nearly seven-minutes into the stanza. His second goal in as many games. Bowie added an insurance marker on the power-play in the final minute of the second to put the Cougars up 5-3. Two of Bowie's three goals came on the man-advantage.
Prince George had a season high 19 shots on net in the second period. The Royals were held off the scoresheet in the final frame.
