Swift Current Broncos News Release

Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (2-7-1-0) and Regina Pats (3-4-2-0) played a chaotic 60 minutes of hockey at the Brandt Centre Monday night, ending in a 9-4 victory for the Pats.

Regina opened the scoring one minute into the game on Carson Denomie's eighth of the season. The Broncos responded six minutes later.

Carter Halamandaris fed the puck across the Regina zone for Owen Pickering pinching in from the left point, and Pickering's shot was deflected in by Eric Houk to tie the game.

Zack Smith and Logan Nijhoff added goals for the Pats as they took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Mathew Ward scored his first WHL goal for the Broncos early in the second, taking a pass in front of the net and cutting across the crease on his backhand to cut into Regina's lead.

Two minutes later Smith scored his second of the game to restore Regina's two-goal lead, before Easton Armstrong was the recipient of a lucky bounce off his skate and in to push the lead to 5-2.

Bode Hagan cut into Regina's lead just over two minutes after Armstrong's goal, but Connor Bedard scored on a breakaway to restore the three-goal advantage a few minutes later.

Owen Williams, in his 200th WHL game, scored on the power play to once again reduce Regina's lead to 6-4 with a minute and a half to play in the second.

After a heavy forecheck, Regina was able to score with less than a second on the clock to take a 7-4 lead into the intermission.

The Pats would add two more goals off the sticks of Denomie and Carter Massier for the 9-4 final score.

The Broncos are now off for two days before a 4:00 game against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Thursday.
