Cougars Drop Series Opener to Sioux Falls

GENEVA, Ill. - The Sioux Falls Canaries topped the Kane County Cougars 8-1 on Friday night. The game was called after five-and-a-half innings due to severe weather.
In the bottom of the second, the Cougars (24-32) jumped out to a lead on a solo home run by Jonah Davis off Canaries' starter Ty Culbreth (4-5). However, from that point on it was all Canaries (27-31).
Sioux Falls got the scoring started in the top of third, as Hunter Clanin belted a solo homer off Cougars' starter Jack Fox (5-5). One inning later, the Canaries took the lead as Jordan Barth walked to lead off the inning before coming in to score on an RBI groundout by Welington Dotel to make it 2-1.
In the fourth inning, the Canaries struck for four runs. Barth highlighted the frame with a two-run single, and Mike Hart also drove in a run with a single. Sioux Falls added two more in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Darnell Sweeney and a wild pitch to go ahead 8-1. Following the top of the sixth inning, the game was called due to severe weather in Geneva.
