Kane County Cougars News Release
APPLETON, Wisc. - One night after winning on a walk-off home run, the Kane County Cougars lost on a walk-off homer. In the opener of a four-game series and an eight-game road trip, the Cougars suffered a 7-4 defeat against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Time Warner Cable Field. The Rattlers' Brock Kjeldgaard hit a three-run shot off Justin Murray in the bottom of the ninth and snapped the Cougars' winning streak at three.
The Cougars took a 3-0 lead right away versus Dan Merklinger. Steve Kleen poked a sacrifice fly, and Grant Desme smashed a two-run homer. After the Rattlers answered with two in the bottom of the first against Anthony Capra, Petey Paramore belted a solo homer in the fifth to make it 4-2. Capra pitched five innings and gave up two runs on three hits, walked five and fanned two. He left in a line for the win but got a no-decision.
Scott Deal yielded two runs in the sixth on four hits for a 4-4 game, and that score remained until the ninth when Kjeldgaard hit a two-out, game-winning homer off Murray. The winning run was charged to Jamie Richmond (4-3), who left with two on and one out in the inning. Brandon Ritchie (3-0) won it for Wisconsin.
The Cougars (36-23) and Rattlers (28-31) continue their four-game series Thursday night at 7:05 CDT when Shawn Haviland (4-2, 3.45) faces Daniel Meadows (9-1, 3.40).
