
Bees Open Series with a Two-Run Loss to Beloit

Burlington, IA (June 10, 2009) - The Burlington Bees opened a five-game home series with Beloit Wednesday night at Community Field. The Bees ended up losing 4-2 after allowing two runs in the ninth inning.
For the second day in a row, the Bees scored the first run of the contest. In the second inning, David Wood led off by reaching on an error. He then scored when Chase Fontaine tripled, which gave the Bees a 1-0 lead. The lead did not last long as Beloit put up one run in the third and then took a lead scoring one run in the sixth.
The Bees had two runners on with nobody out in both the third and fifth innings but could not get any of the runners home. Beloit then added to their lead scoring two runs in the ninth to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, the Bees did get one more run on the board. With one out, Jarrod Dyson singled and then moved up to third on a Nick Van Stratten double. There was then a wild-pitch to score Dyson and move Van Stratten to third. The Bees could not get any more runs across as the game ended with potential tying run at the plate.
Tim Melville got the start and pitched well. In 5.2 innings, he allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. He took the loss to move to 1-3. Derrick Saito pitched the final 3.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Bees had eight hits in the game. Van Stratten led the way with three hits and was the only Bee with more than one hit. Fernando Garcia did walk three times in the game.
The Bees will continue the series with Beloit with a double-header Thursday at Community Field. Sam Runion and Zach Peterson are the scheduled starters.
