
Cottonmouths Prepare for Busy February

The Columbus Cottonmouths are preparing for a busy February, with four home games and several promotions both on and off the ice.
This Friday, Feb. 3, jerseys will be given away, courtesy of PTAP, to the first fans through the gates, while supplies last (minimum 1200). The 1st-place Augusta RiverHawks face the 2nd-place Snakes at 7:30 pm. Gates open at 6:30, and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and arrive early.
Saturday, Feb. 4 marks a special day for the Cottonmouths organization and its head coach and general manager Jerome `Boom Boom' Bechard. Jerome, who has been with the franchise since it began in 1996, will be one of six inducted into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. Assistant Coach Brad Prefontaine will take over head coaching duties on Saturday night as the Snakes head to Knoxville to face the Ice Bears.
Our annual Skate with the Snakes, exclusively for season ticket holders, will be Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 7:15-8:45pm at the Columbus Ice Rink. There is no registration needed; season ticket holders will be verified upon entry.
February 10-11 is our biennial Legends Weekend, with over 20 former Snakes returning to the Snake Pit. Tentatively scheduled to return from the 1997-98 Levins Cup championship team are Mick Kempffer, Derek Marchand, Mike Martens, Doug Mann, Kevin Plager, Marcel Richard, Jerome Bechard, Brad Prefontaine, Ole Kjenstad, Tom Wilson and Frankie Ouellette. Returning from the 2004-05 President's Cup championship team are Ryan Haggarty, Craig Stahl, Brent Toews, Tylor Keller, Tommy McMonagle, Tim Green, Colby Will, Daryl Moor, Ryan Aikia, Brock Johnson and Chris Rook. Derek Crimin and Dan Leslie will also be on hand.
In addition to Legends Weekend, Saturday, Feb. 11 will be our Military Appreciation Night with over 2000 soldiers expected to be in attendance. A special edition of our Legends game will take place at 6 pm, with Snakes Legends facing off against the newly-developed Fort Benning hockey team. This game will take place prior to the Snakes' regularly scheduled game at 7:30 against the Mississippi Surge. All military can purchase tickets to this event for $5 each with your military ID. Special jerseys will be worn by both Legends and the current Cottonmouths; both will be auctioned on Saturday night. Special guest from the Biggest Loser, Julie Hatton, will be speaking between the Legends game and our regularly-scheduled game.
The Snakes have teamed up with Carmike Cinemas to host a miniature golf tournament to benefit the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 1-4 pm. The entry fee is $40 per team; participants are responsible for assembling their team of 3-4 players. Each team will be assigned to play with a Cottonmouths player. Each team will receive two free tickets to the Cottonmouths game on Feb. 19. To register your team today, call the Snakes office at 706 571 0086.
February 17-19 is Hockey Weekend Across America. Hockey fans and players are encouraged to wear their hockey jersey to work or school on Friday, Feb. 17. From 9:30-11am on Saturday, Feb. 18, children 4-9 years old are encouraged to try hockey for free. To register or for more information, visit www.tryhockeyforfree.com.
Sunday, Feb. 19 is Burger King Kids Day. Vouchers for free children's tickets can be picked up at area Burger Kings beginning Monday, Feb. 13. Vouchers are for children 12 and under.
Fans are reminded the Snakes' away game originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at Huntsville has been moved to Tuesday, Feb. 21. Fans can watch this game and all away games at Loco's Grill and Pub.
Our annual event benefiting the Children's Miracle Network at The Medical Center will be held Tuesday, March 6. For 2012, we return to our traditional Tip-a-Snake dinner, with Cottonmouths players serving as entertainers and waiters for the evening. Cocktails and a silent auction will begin at 5:30, with dinner starting at 7 pm. This year's event will take place in the Civic Center hospitality suites. Individual tickets are $45 and a table of 8 is $325. Registration is available online at columbusregional.com under the `classes and events' tab.
