Mississippi Surge News Release
Biloxi, MS- January 31st, 2012 - Things get hot in the Magnolia State as the Surge head to Southaven to take on cross-state rivals, the Mississippi RiverKings. Both teams are on hot streaks, as the Surge have racked up wins in five of their last six contests and the RiverKings used a win against the Surge on January 8th to launch a four-game win streak that was snapped by the Fayetteville FireAntz on Saturday.
Veteran winger Jeff Grant notched the first hat trick of the season on Sunday against the FireAntz in a 6-3 Surge victory. It was Grant's second multi-goal game this season and his third in a Surge uniform. Mark Pawlowski registered his first professional goal at 19:58 of the first period that swung the momentum to the Surge for the rest of the game.
Several Surge players are also on hot streaks as the line of Tyler Ruel, Shawn Skelly and veteran Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn has been lighting it up since Ruel's arrival. Since joining the Surge, the Port Alberni, BC native has 8 points on 3 goals and 5 assists. Skelly has also posted 3 goals and 5 assists in that time and Versteeg-Lytwyn has 10 points in the last 6 games, with 5 goals and 5 assists.
