Lincoln Stars News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - Lincoln Stars forward Paul Cotter and defenseman Christian Krygier have been named to the U.S. Junior Select Team by USA Hockey for the 2017 World Junior A Challenge from Dec. 10-16 in Truto, Nova Scotia.
"Both Paul and Christian have worked extremely hard to earn this opportunity," said Stars GM Jon Hull. "This is an event that past Stars, including former coach Chris Hartsburg, have had great success at and have represented their team, league and country with pride. We look forward to following them on their quest for another gold!"
Cotter, 18, makes his first international appearance and second in-season honor following his participation in the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game (AAPG) in September. The Western Michigan University commit tallied four goals and five points through nine games with the Stars this season and was recently awarded a C-rating by NHL Central Scouting in the most recent Players To Watch List. The Canton, Mich. product leads the Stars in goals.
Krygier, 17, enters his second international appearance this season after appearing with Team USA in the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in July and third overall in the last two seasons. The Novi, Mich. native owns one assist through nine games this season and six points with a +8 rating through 59 career USHL games. The University of Wisconsin commit was given a B-rating by NHL Central Scouting in their Players To Watch List and also participated in the AAPG.
All 22 players selected currently play in the USHL, and the team includes 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders. The United States will be joined by Canada East, Canada West, Czech Republic, Russia and Switzerland. The United States has captured the World Junior A Challenge title six times, including winning the gold medal last winter in 2016.
