Cottam's RBI Double in Eighth Lifts Greenville over Asheville, 6-3

Greenville, S.C. - Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Kole Cottam came to the plate with a runner on second base and clubbed a fastball off the center field wall for an RBI double to propel Greenville to a 6-3 win over Asheville Saturday night at Fluor Field.

The Drive (14-15) added two more runs in the eighth inning on a bases loaded walk by Cam Cannon and Tyreque Reed.

Overall, the team combined for nine hits on the night. Cottam, Devlin Granberg, solo home run, and Christian Koss each tallied multi-hit efforts. Koss reached base four times, two walks, and extended his hit-streak to 10. With Reed's RBI in the eighth, he extended his RBI streak to eight.

Asheville belted three solo home runs on the night.

Brendan Nail earned the win after pitching 1.0 inning. He allowed one run on two hits, one homer and a walk. He also was charged with a blown save. Chris Murphy got the start for the Drive and hurled 5.0 innings. The left-hander allowed two runs on four hits, two homers and one walk. He fanned four. Alex Scherff got the save after pitching a perfect ninth inning.

Angel Macaure took the loss after surrendering four runs, three earned, over 2.1 innings of work. Jimmy Endersby started for Asheville and went 3.2 innings and surrendered two runs, one earned, on four hits, one homer and one walk with three strikeouts.

Asheville plated the game's first run in the top of the second on a Joe Perez solo home run.

In the bottom of the third inning Greenville tied the game, 1-1. With two outs, Cole Brannen singled to right and advanced to second on a fielding error by the right fielder. Koss followed and walked which brought Cam Cannon to the plate. Cannon hit a ball to the first baseman, who whiffed on the ball for an error, allowing Brannen to score.

Greenville took the lead in their next at-bat. Granberg came to the dish with two outs and poked a ball to right-center field for a solo home run to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. It travelled 389. Ft.

However, the lead didn't last long. With two outs in the fifth, Alex McKenna skied a solo shot over the center field wall to tie the game at 2-2.

The Drive took a lead in the seventh inning. Koss got things started with two outs on a single to left and advanced to third on a Cam Cannon single to right. Up in the count, 1-0, Esplin lined a ball up the middle that was misplayed by the shortstop to plate the third run of the game and give Greenville a 3-2 lead.

Once again, the Tourists tied it on a solo home run, this time off the bat of Enmanuel Valdez in the top of the eighth inning.

The Drive took the lead for good in the eighth inning on Cottam's RBI double and the two bases-loaded walks.

Game six against the Tourists is set for Sunday at 3:05 pm at Fluor Field. The Drive are set to throw right-hander Brayan Bello while Asheville is scheduled to throw right-hander R.J. Freure.
