Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release


On Friday... Niko Hulsizer and Jacson McGowan launched a pair of two-run homers in the 7-3 win Friday. Jordan Qsar had a two-RBI triple to take the lead during the five-run third inning. Zack Trageton and Jacob Lopez combined for 13 strikeouts and kept the Braves quiet from the second inning on.

About Rome... The Braves scored three runs in the first inning on a Michael Harris II three-run homer, but failed to answer the Hot Rods seven runs the rest of the game. Rome has scored first in every game this series, including their 3-2 win on Tuesday. During this series, their run differential has dropped to -13, which sits just seventh in the High-A East.

Third Inning Theatrics... With five runs and a homer in the third inning, Bowling Green has made it one of their most productive innings this season. Their 28 runs scored in the third are the most out of any inning in 2021. McGowan's two-run homer was the seventh hit in the third frame, also the most out of any inning.

Battle at the Top... The Hot Rods pulled 2.0 games ahead of the Braves in the High-A East South Division standings with their win last night. Rome is still tied for second-place with Winston-Salem. They both sit at 15-13 going into Saturday.

Still Streaking... In all 23 games that Ruben Cardenas has played this season he has reached base. He has also collected

a hit in each of his last 13 games. Over the 13-game span he is 13-51 (.294) with four homers, 10 RBIs, and five walks. He is hitting .333 and has an OBP of .400 on the season.

Slam-Season... With the bases loaded this season, the Hot Rods have come through with five grand slams. Jacson McGowan launched two and Erik Ostberg hit one in the first series of the season in Greenville, South Carolina. In the first home series against Asheville, Greg Jones hit the lone walk-off and extra inning home run, which happened to be a grand slam. Ruben Cardenas hit his first this season in the Hot Rods win on Wednesday.

Friday's Notes... Ostberg was the only Hot Rods batter to have multiple hits... This was his fifth multi-hit game this season... Ostberg batted second in the lineup for the first time in 2021... Hulsizer had his second multi-RBI game of the season... Qsar had his third multi-RBI game of the year... McGowan had his fifth multi-RBI game this season... He trails Hunt and Witherspoon who both have six... Trageton tied his longest outing of the season with 5.0 innings pitched... The Hot Rods have scored 28 runs in the third inning in 2021... That is the most out of any inning... BG has hit seven homers in the third inning this year... They have hit more homers in the third inning than any other inning this season...

Now pitching: Jayden Murray... The Hot Rods righty is making his second start at home this season. He has pitched three consecutive outings of 5.0 innings and four strikeouts. He let up just three runs over this span. His one hit allowed against Asheville was a season low and opposing hitters have a .120 average against Murray.
