Kitchener Rangers News Release
Owen Sound, Ont. - The Blueshirts recorded a significant victory in Owen Sound Saturday night to bring Kitchener within just six points of fourth place in the Western Conference standings, with 10 games remaining in the regular season. With the triumph, the Rangers have now posted four-straight victories and have impressively earned points in nine of their last 11 games. Kitchener's Marco Costantini recorded a 34-save shutout. Reid Valade, Francesco Arcuri and Matthew Sop each scored in Kitchener's 3-0 road win in Owen Sound.
Both teams had a trip with the man-advantage in the opening period, but neither team could capitalize. Antonio Tersigni thought he had scored his first career OHL goal, but that was challenged by the Rangers staff and successfully deemed to be goaltender interference. After 20 minutes, the shots favoured the Attack 8-4 and the game was still scoreless.
The Rangers scored five minutes into the second period and with five minutes left in the period to go ahead 2-0. First, Reid Valade parked himself at the side of the Owen Sound net and converted a rebound at 5:30. Then, right out of the penalty box, Filip Mešar (Montréal Canadiens) sent Francesco Arucri (Dallas Stars) in for a breakaway to score at 15:17. Arcuri continues to stay on the scoresheet as he fired a shot past the blocker of Owen Soudn netminder Carter George for his 43rd goal of the season, making it goals in five-straight games. Kitchener led 2-0 through 40 minutes of play and shots favoured the Attack 19-15.
Owen Sound outshot Kitchener 14-5 in the third period, but Kitchener stood tall and didn't allow the Attack to get into the game. Matthew Sop added an empty net goal at 17:30 to seal the win for the Rangers.
The final score ended 3-0 for the East Avenue Blue. Shots favoured the Attack 34-20. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power-play. Francesco Arcuri earned the game's second star with one goal and one assist and Marco Costantini earned the game's first star with a 34-save shutout.
