Cosart Fans 10; Claws Win 5-4

GREENVILLE, SC - Jarred Cosart allowed a run over six innings, tying a career high with 10 strikeouts, as Lakewood beat Greenville 5-4 on Saturday night at Fluor Field.

The BlueClaws (20-16) win their third straight game and are now four games over .500 for the second time this year (13-9). Cosart improved to 4-1 with the win.

Leading 5-2, Josh Zeid gave up a two-run home run to Christian Vazquez in the 9th inning, but struck out Vladimir Frias to end the game. For Zeid, it was his 6th save, and first six-out save of the season.

Jiwan James went 3-4 for Lakewood, driving in two with a fifth-inning single and putting the BlueClaws on the board with a first inning single, stolen base and run. He came home on Leandro Castro's 5-3 groundout, putting Lakewood on the board first for the first time this series. They would not give up that lead.

Domingo Santana added two hits and scored twice for the BlueClaws, who remain two games behind first-place Hickory.

Greenville (18-18) starter Yeiper Castillo (1-3) allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings.

Lakewood travels to Greensboro (NC) and will open a four-game series with the Grasshoppers (Marlins) beginning Sunday at 4:00 pm. LHP Nick Hernandez (2-1, 1.69) opposes RHP Bryan Evans (4-0, 3.60).

Notebook: Lakewood has taken five of the eight meetings from Greensboro this year. Jonathan Villar (1-4) extended his hitting streak to nine games (16-36).
