Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Charleston, SC - Hector Sanchez's two-run home run in the fourth inning provided all the scoring the Augusta GreenJackets needed in a 3-1 win on Saturday night as Augusta earned a split in their four-game series against the Charleston RiverDogs.
Sanchez took Shaeffer Hall's offering in the fourth over the fence in left for his second home run of the year. Chris Dominguez led off the inning with a single prior to the two-run blast. Hall had a very topsy-turvy outing for the RiverDogs, retiring the side in order during each odd-numbered inning while allowing baserunners and runs in the even-numbered frames.
In the sixth, Luke Anders doubled with one out and later in the inning Daniel Cook singled him home to add an insurance run for the GreenJackets. Hall (2-2) departed after allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out seven.
Jorge Bucardo delivered one of his finest starts of the season in the Augusta triumph, striking out a career-high nine Charleston hitters. Bucardo (2-2) fired seven shutout innings of two-hit baseball without a walk to earn his second win of the year.
The RiverDogs threatened in the ninth, getting a two-out solo home run from Luke Murton to pull to within a pair. Chris Gloor got a pop-out to end the game and earn his first save of the season after two solid innings in relief of Bucardo.
The GreenJackets return home on Sunday afternoon to welcome the division-leading Savannah Sand Gnats to town for a pivotal four-game series. Augusta sends BJ Salsbury (4-2, 4.19) to the mound against fellow righty Armando Rodriguez (2-3, 3.06). First pitch will come at 2:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 1:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
