FLORENCE, KY - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, fell to the Florence Freedom 9-5 at Champion Window Field Wednesday night in Florence, Kentucky. The CornBelters suffered the defeat despite coming back twice early in the contest.

Normal's starter Ryan Sheldon was tagged with the loss after only last 4 2/3 innings and getting touched up for 10 hits resulting in eight earned runs. Sheldon didn't make it out of the bottom of the fifth where the Freedom rallied for five runs to retake the lead for good. Reliever Jason Furrow finished up the game pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowing only one run.

The CornBelters came back from a 1-0 deficit as well as being down 3-1 before the five run explosion put them out of reach. Offensively the `Belters were held without an extra base hit, and four of their five runs came from a pair of players with two RBI's apiece. Third basemen Daniel Cox went 1-3 with a two RBI and two runs scored, right fielder Asif Shah knocked in the other two.

Normal is back at Champion Window Field Thursday night to take on the Freedom in game two of the three game series. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm, with the pregame on 95.9 WEZC and WJBC.com starting at 5:45 pm.
