Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, aided by an early offensive explosion, beat the River City Rascals 7-2 in the second game of the series. Normal starting pitcher Drew Provence (4-2) grabbed the win, while River City's Liam Ohlmann (0-3) took the loss.

All of Normal's scoring would be completed in the first two innings. Centerfielder Ty Wiesemeyer kick started the offense with a lead off double and was then brought home when the designated hitter, Pat McKenna, hit a two-run home run, giving Normal a 2-0 lead in the first.

The CornBelters' bats caught fire in the second. Catcher Trey Manz got the scoring started with an RBI double that brought home second baseman Andrew Cohn. Wiesemeyer hit his second double of the night, sending both Manz and shortstop Jesse Olivar across the plate and extending the lead to 5-0. McKenna added his own fuel to the fire, hitting his second home run of the night, driving home Wiesemeyer to leave the 'Belters with a 7-0 advantage.

The Rascals got their first and only set of runs in the seventh inning, after an error by Normal allowed two River City runs to cross the plate, leaving the score at a 7-2 CornBelters lead.

The 'Belters will wrap up the series tomorrow night. Normal will put right-hander Tyler Lavigne (4-7, 4.73 ERA) on the mound to face River City's right-handed pitcher Tony Marsala (4-6, 3.48 ERA). Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 6:20pm.
