(Joliet, IL)- After falling to Rockford Thursday night in a 13-inning heartbreaker, the Slammers rebounded Friday at Silver Cross Field in a 2-1 victory over the RiverHawks to tie the series at one apiece.

Rockford brought the game's first run across in the fourth inning. Matt Greener singled with one away, and later in the inning, Jet Butler sent a liner to the right field wall, bringing Greener around. Butler was caught trying to stretch the double into a triple, but still secured a 1-0 lead.

Joliet responded in the home half with a run of their own. David Christensen singled and proceeded to steal both second and third base while Kyle Maunus was at the plate. Maunus grounded out, but brought Christensen around in the process to tie the ballgame.

The Slammers pulled ahead in the sixth and never gave the lead back. Abel Nieves doubled to lead the inning off, followed by a Maunus single to put runners on the corners. David Fox then smacked an RBI single, his 12 th RBI in 11 games.

Tommy Mendoza notched his first home win of the 2012 season in a nearly eight-inning outing, and gave up just one run in the process. Geoff Brown threw bridge relief, and Amalio Diaz earned the save.

The Slammers wrap up their final six-game homestand with the RiverHawks Sunday in a 2:05 p.m. matinee. Fans can listen to the game on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
