Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce will proudly partner with South Dakota Corn and Feeding South Dakota to host the second annual Corn Week food drive and fundraiser. Corn Week will begin on Monday, March 14 and last through Saturday, March 19.
"We're excited to team up with the Skyforce to support Feeding South Dakota, the state's largest hunger-relief organization," said Teddi Mueller, South Dakota Corn's industry affairs director. "As the state's No. 1 industry, agriculture is committed to doing its part to ensure that no one has to go hungry. In addition, Corn Week is an opportunity for South Dakotans, particularly Skyforce fans, to show their generosity by contributing much-needed food to this great cause."
The food drive will take place from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 16. Food can be donated at any of the six Lewis Drug locations in Sioux Falls, and all donations will go toward Feeding South Dakota. Upon donating food, you will receive two tickets to the SD Corn Association Game on Saturday, March 19, in which the Skyforce will take on the Canton Charge. Bins for food donations will also be set up at the Sanford Pentagon during the game on Saturday night.
Locations for each of the Lewis Drug locations are as follows:
500 W. 41st St.
2700 W. 12th St.
1301 E. 10th St.
5500 W. 41st St.
4409 E. 26th St.
6901 S. Louise Ave.
Along with food donations, fans will have the opportunity to raise money by purchasing a corn-themed jersey online. In order to purchase one of these jerseys, follow the link provided: http://goo.gl/forms/oP6GZ16imK. Each jersey will be autographed by the entire Skyforce basketball team. Any jerseys that are not purchased online will be auctioned off at Saturday's Corn Association Game. All proceeds will go to Feeding South Dakota.
There are two ways your jersey purchase can impact the Sioux Falls community. Each jersey sold will either provide two Sioux Falls children with a backpack full of food every weekend for an entire school year, or it will provide an entire family with food for up to 10 weeks!
In 2015, the food drive and jersey auction raised over $9,000 and around 500 pounds of donated food. While that went a long way in supporting our community, the goal for 2016 is to double food donations and collect upwards of 1,000 pounds of food.
"Feeding South Dakota is excited to partner with SD Corn and the Sioux Falls Skyforce again this year to raise food and funds for those who are hungry. Last year, this promotion helped to provide more than 45,000 meals for hungry individuals and families across the community," said Matt Gassen, CEO of Feeding South Dakota.
