
Cormier, Braves Blank Lynx

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Ottawa Lynx 8-0 at The Diamond Tuesday night. Braves pitcher Lance Cormier tossed a complete game shutout and the Braves turned five double plays to win the series opener.
The Braves batted around in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs. Carlos Mendez knocked two in with a single. Doug Clark and Wes Timmons added RBI singles. The Braves tacked on three more runs in the second. Clark and Brayan Pena chased runs home with singles and a run scored on an error. Richmond added one more run in the third on an RBI single by Brent Lillibridge. Meanwhile, Cormier did not walk a man and needed just 83 pitches to become the first Brave to toss a nine inning complete game this season.
Cormier earned the win. Ottawa had just one runner as far as second base. J.A. Happ took the loss. Clark had four hits for the Braves. Brennan King had two for the Lynx.
The Braves continue their homestand against Ottawa with a double-header Wednesday at 6 PM at The Diamond. Blaine Boyer and a starter to be named will pitch for Richmond against the Lynx Bubba Nelson and a starter to be named.
