Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush and the Missouri Mavericks clashed for just the second time this season Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena. The Rush out-shot the Mavericks 49-30, but 48 saves by Mathieu Corbeil lifted the Mavericks to a 3-1 win. The Rapid City Rush and the Missouri Mavericks meet again tomorrow and tickets are available at gotmine.com or by calling 716-7825.
The first 40 minutes of the contest would be dominated by the Rush offense out-shooting the Mavericks 34-15. However, it was the Mavericks who opened things up early with a goal just 1:31 into the first frame off a goal by John-Scott Dickson, second leading scorer for Missouri.
Late in the second period, Damian Surma knotted the score angling in a shot over Missouri goaltender Mathieu Corbeil at 15:56 assisted by Jamie VanderVeeken and Winston Day Chief. The Mavericks would reclaim the advantage only two minutes later as Jesse Perrin notched his first goal of the season with only 2:07 remaining in the middle frame.
Despite numerous opportunities, the Rush could not pick up the equalizer in the third. Instead, Kyle Hood slid home an empty-net goal to secure the 3-1 win.
