Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Mickey Lang exploded for a natural hat trick and a total of six points and Mike Stinziani also broke loose for a natural hat trick and piled up four points as the host Quad City Mallards hammered the Denver Cutthroats 7-1 Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 9,347- the largest throng to attend a Mallards home game in exactly ten years.

Lang scored the first of his three straight goals and triggered a run of seven unanswered Mallard goals by walking in alone to tie game at one at 10:51 of the first period- just 10 seconds after A.J. Gale's point-blank power play goal had briefly given the Cutthroats the lead.

The Mallards were on the power play when Lang put Quad City on top for good with a one-timer from the high slot at 14:46 of the first. The Mallards were up two men when Lang completed his first career hat trick with a blast from the top of the left wing circle at 7:57 of the second period. Anthony Perdicaro widened the gap to 4-1 by converting Lang's breakaway feed at 16:45 of the second.

Stinziani ripped off three consecutive third period goals to blow the game wide open. He buried Lang's cross-ice feed just 1:33 into the third, scored the Mallards' third power play goal from the left wing circle at 6:54 of the final frame and capped off his second hat trick in nine days and the Mallards' biggest win of the season by burying his third and his team's seventh at 14:59. While the final goal was the first of the night that Lang neither scored nor set up, Mike Hellyer did pick up his fourth assist of the contest on that strike.

The Mallards' sterling effort sent an exceedingly large crowd home happy. More fans attended tonight's contest than any other Mallards game at the i wireless Center in a decade since 9,594 watched the Mallards in action at home on January 19, 2003.

Over the last two nights, the Mallards have drawn 13,379 fans to the i wireless Center- 4,032 spectators attended the Mallard's 4-3 loss to Fort Worth last night- the largest attendance total for back-to-back Mallards home games in nearly nine years since 14,950 fans saw the Flock take the ice on February 27 and February 28, 2004.

The Mallards return to action next Friday on the road against the Arizona Sundogs. The Mallards next play at home Tuesday, January 29 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bloomington Blaze. January 29 will also see Mo Mallard welcome fellow mascots from throughout the area to All-Star Mascot Night.
