Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Brahmas' winning streak was snapped at four Saturday night as Fort Worth fell to the Bloomington Blaze by the score of 3-1.
After a scoreless opening period, the Blaze took the first lead of the game at the 13:29 mark of the second period when Matthew Larke put back a rebound after Brahmas netminder Brad Fogal made a pad save on an initial Steve Makway shot.
Fort Worth evened the score at 1-1 4:27 into the third period as Calin Wild found himself open in the slot and fired a wrister past Pier-Olivier Pelletier. For Wild, it was his seventh goal of the season and third in as many games.
Bloomington regained the lead at 13:45 of the third period when Jon Booras picked up a loose puck in the Brahmas zone, streaked down the left wing and snuck it past Fogal.
With under a minute to play in regulation and the Brahmas' extra attacker on the ice, Ross Rouleau fired a slap shot from the high slot that was deflected in front and hit the post, but Bloomington was able to clear the puck and avoid overtime.
Makway added an empty-net score with 25 seconds remaining to make it a 3-1 game and seal the victory for the Blaze.
Fogal made 34 saves on 36 shots fired on net by Bloomington but took the loss to fall to 9-7-1 this season. Pelletier stopped 26 of 27 to pick up his 12th victory in 2012-2013.
Fort Worth continued its struggles on the man advantage, failing to convert on any of its five power-play opportunities Saturday night. The Blaze did not have a power-play opportunity, as the only penalty called on the Brahmas - a two-minute minor on Adam for roughing - came at the same time as the cross checking minor called on Ryan Palmer.
With the loss, the Brahmas' win streak was snapped at four. Fort Worth will not have to wait long for a chance at revenge, as the Brahmas and Blaze meet again Friday, January 25 at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
