Denver Cutthroats News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - The Denver Cutthroats opened up the scoring but the rest of the night belonged to the Quad City Mallards who pulled off a 7-1 win on Saturday night behind Mickey Lang's seven-point game and Mike Stinziani's natural hat trick in front of 9,347 at iWireless Arena.
Lang also recorded a natural hat trick for the Mallards (16-18-4) to go along with four assists. Three of the Mallards seven goals came on the power play, including two by Lang. The second-year forward's seven-point night is the highest recorded in the Central Hockey League this season by one player.
AJ Gale scored Denver's (19-15-4) lone goal on the power play off Chris Greene's centering feed from the left-wing corner midway through the first period before the flood gates opened for the Quad City offense. Lang struck on his first goal just 10 seconds after Gale put Denver on the board at 10:41 and again with 5:14 left in the first on the man-advantage.
Lang's hat trick tally came at 7:57 of the second to make it a 3-1 Mallard lead and Anthony Pedicaro scored a breakaway goal with 3:15 remaining.
The third period belonged to Stinziani who scored just 1:33 in to make it a 5-1 lead for the Mallards. Stinziani added two more at 6:54 and 14:59 to cap off the scoring for the night.
Kieran Millan took the loss for the Cutthroats, stopping 39. Quad City's John Murray corralled the Denver offense with 28 saves.
Denver finished 1-for-8 on the power play. Quad City went 3-for-9.
With the loss the Cutthroats slide into sixth place in the CHL, just one point back of the Bloomington Blaze. Denver and Bloomington are scheduled to hook up on Tuesday at 6:05 PM MST in Central Illinois.
