Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-Scott Conway scored four goals, and the Indiana Ice scored five times in the second period to earn a 9-1 win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints Wednesday night at the Pam Am Pavilion in Indianapolis. The Fighting Saints opened the game's scoring, but the Ice scored the game's next nine goals en route to a victory that pulled them into a tie with the Waterloo Black Hawks in the race for the Anderson Cup.
Leading 2-1 entering the second period, the Ice scored early and often in the middle frame. Conway scored his first of four goals, snapping a wrist shot under the glove of Dubuque netminder Kevin Reich at 1:59.
Up by a pair, the Ice scored three more times in the next several minutes to extend its lead. Aiden Muir knocked in a large rebound off the pad of Reich at 5:37 to make it 4-1 Indiana. Head Coach Matt Shaw elected to remove Reich for Ben Johansson in goal, but the Ice just kept coming. Johansson's first shot faced was off the stick of Patrick Newell. The goaltender made the save, but the rebound was tucked in by Conway for his second of the game at 6:38. Less than a minute later, the Ice scored their sixth goal of the game, as Brian Pinho wrapped the puck from behind the net and beat Johansson blocker side to make it 6-1 at 7:24.
Conway would complete the hat trick at 11:47 of the middle frame, roofing a shot from the left wing over Johansson's glove to make It 7-1. The goals in the second period were Conway's 28th, 29th, and 30th over the year.
Despite the eventual result, it was Dubuque who opened the scoring on the road Wednesday. With the Fighting Saints on the powerplay, Karson Kuhlman fed the puck across the blueline to captain Alexx Privitera. He fired a wrist shot that missed the net. The puck ricocheted off the end boards to the front of the goal and Seamus Malone took full advantage. Malone beat Ice goaltender Jason Palowski to the left post to give Dubuque a 1-0 lead at 5:34.
Indiana responded following the Fighting Saints tally with strong offensive chances, and a pair of goals. At 10:15, Jacob Pritchard scored his 14thgoal of the season tie the game. Aiden Muir threw the puck to the high slot for Pritchard. He accepted the pass and cut to the front of the net, sliding a backhand shot past a sliding Reich. Indiana would take the lead at the 14:20 mark on a great individual play by Dwyer Tschantz. The 6-foot-5 forward won a puck battled behind the Dubuque net, cut to the left side, maneuvered to the slot, and ripped a shot past Reich's blocker for his 24th tally of the year. Patrick Newell and Scott Conway assisted on the goal, which then led to the offensive outburst in the second period.
Following the five goal second period, Jason Salvaggio scored early in the third period to extend the Ice lead to 8-1. With six minutes left, Tschantz made a beautiful play, throwing a behind the back pass out front to Conway who scored his fourth goal of the game to make it 9-1.
The nine goals allowed was a season-high for Dubuque, and a season-high in goals scored for the Ice. Dubuque still trails Cedar Rapids by three points in the battle for second place in the Eastern Conference Standings. Both teams have two games remaining.
The Fighting Saints visit Youngstown on Friday, and are at Team USA U-17 in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday to close the regular season. The Fighting Saints have clinched a playoff spot and will play the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
