BEVERLY HILLS, CA - Officials from Anchor Bay Films have announced that the movie, The Open Road, will open in select theatres on Friday, August 28. Jeff Bridges, Justin Timberlake, and Mary Steenburgen star in writer/director Michael Meredith's tale of a young man looking to reconnect with his long-lost father -- a famous athlete -- and bring him back to the bedside of his ailing mother.Lyle Lovett, Harry Dean Stanton, and Kate Mara fill out the supporting cast.
The opening and closing scenes for the production were filmed at Whataburger Field (Corpus Christi, Tx) on Sunday, March 30, 2008, after an exhibition game between the Corpus Christi Hooks and Round Rock Express. The full ballpark provided an ideal setting as cameras rolled at dusk.
Timberlake portrays a fictional member of the Hooks, Carlton Garrett. Bridges plays his father. The two journey home to Garrett's ailing mother, Academy Award winner Steenburgen. Mara plays Timberlake's love interest in the drama/comedy.
The film is distributed by AnchorBay and set to open in Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and other select cities across the United States.
