Conrad Gregor Stays Hot on the Road as Boulders Drop Both Games of Doubleheader at Miners
July 18, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New York Boulders News Release
The Boulders lost both games of a doubleheader against the Sussex County Miners on Wednesday at Skylands Stadium, 4-0 and 4-3, respectively.
In a makeup of a game postponed due to rain Tuesday night, Rockland was only able to get one hit against Miners starting pitcher Andrew Vinson. Conrad Gregor- who came into the game leading Rockland in away hitting- hit a two-out single in the sixth. Vinson pitched a complete game for Sussex County (seven innings in a doubleheader game), allowing that one hit, no runs, and three walks while striking out four.
Boulders starter David Palladino- who was last week's Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week- struck out the first three batters of the game and only allowed one hit through the third inning. He allowed Sussex County to get to him in the bottom of the fourth, however, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks (one intentional). That would be all the Miners needed to secure the win.
Rockland again allowed Sussex County to score in the bottom of the fourth in game two, giving up one run on a Luis Alen sacrifice fly. Down 3-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Conrad Gregor came alive again for the Boulders with a two-run home run down the right field line.
The score then 3-2 in the top of the seventh, Mike Montville hit an RBI double that brought Mikael Mogues home from first to tie the game, 3-3.
Game two continued into extra innings. With the Boulders and Miners still tied 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth and no outs, Jarred Mederos was placed on second base as the International Tie Breaker as per Can-Am League speed up-rules. Nick Kennedy threw a wild pitch that allowed Mederos to move over to third, and then Breland Almadova hit an RBI single to right field to earn Sussex County the walk-off win, 4-3.
Between games, the Boulders dropped from 3rd place to 5th place as the Jackals won a morning game against the Trois-Rivi?res Aigles. After game two, the Boulders sit 8.5 games out of first with a record of 29-28.
The Boulders return home Thursday for game one of a four-game series against the Québec Capitales. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
