Albany Firebirds News Release

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Conquest announced today their complete game schedule for the upcoming 2008 af2 season, including their home opener on Sunday, April 13th versus the Peoria Pirates.

The 2008 af2 season officially kicks off on March 28th, 2008, with the Conquest beginning their seventh season of operations on the road at the Mahoning Valley Thunder on Saturday, March 29th at 7:05 pm.

Following a bye during Week 2, the Conquest's home opener will come in Week 3 on Sunday, April 13th at 4:00 pm against the Peoria Pirates at the Times Union Center. Albany's other bye week will come in Week 15.

"We are very excited for the upcoming Conquest season, our seventh year of operations," said Albany Conquest President/CEO S. Garen Szablewski. "This year's schedule has many fascinating elements, including games against the expansion teams Peoria and Daytona Beach, along with the first ever appearance by Tennessee Valley at the Times Union Center."

The Conquest 2008 home schedule features four Friday night and three Saturday night match-ups, along with one Sunday afternoon game. Friday and Saturday home games are slated for 7:00 p.m. kick-offs. The lone Sunday home game will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Each team will play a total of 16 games, consisting of eight home and eight away. The af2 alignment consists of the American and National Conference with three divisions per conference. The East, Midwest and South Divisions fall into the American Conference, while the Central, Southwest and West compose the National Conference. Fourteen (14) teams make up the American Conference and fifteen (15) make up the National Conference. The addition of five new teams for 2008 created the need for the divisions to be adjusted from 2007. The Conquest remain in the East Division, along with the Mahoning Valley Thunder, the Manchester Wolves and theWilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. The league's 18-week, 232-game regular season schedule concludes July 26, 2008.
