Conor Garland Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week
October 29, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Tucson Roadrunners News Release
TUCSON, AZ. - The American Hockey League announced today that Tucson Roadrunners forward Conor Garland has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 28, 2018.
Garland registered seven points in two games over the weekend for Tucson, leading the Roadrunners to back-to-back road wins over Pacific Division foes.
On Friday evening, Garland - who had never previously recorded three points in a single AHL game - picked up a goal and two assists in the first 5:45 of the opening period en route to a five-point night as the Roadrunners defeated Ontario, 8-5. Garland finished with two goals and three assists while tying a franchise record for points in a game. Then on Saturday, Garland tallied two more assists as Tucson rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits and pulled out a 4-3 overtime win at San Diego.
A third-year pro and 2015 draft pick by the Arizona Coyotes, Garland has recorded three goals and eight assists for 11 points in seven games for Tucson this season, leading the club in scoring to date. The 22-year-old native of Scituate, Mass., has totaled 16 goals and 36 assists for 52 points in 117 career AHL games, all with the Roadrunners. Garland played four seasons of junior hockey with Moncton in the QMJHL and led that league in scoring in both 2014-15 and 2015-16.
In recognition of being named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week, Garland will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Roadrunners home game.
On-The-Ice
Following a franchise record eight goals on Friday and a third consecutive win over I-8 Rival San Diego to start the season, Tucson advanced their record on the season to 6-1-0-1. The team now heads to Colorado for a pair of games this weekend for their first-ever matchup against the AHL's expansion Colorado Eagles club.
