Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings have reassigned forward Dylan Sadowy from the ECHL's Toledo Walleye to the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Griffins have assigned forward Trevor Yates to Toledo.
Playing in his third professional season, Sadowy has tallied eight points (6-2 - 8), a plus-three rating and 17 penalty minutes in six games for the division-leading Walleye. The 22-year-old ranks second on the club in points and his team-high six goals tie for fourth in the ECHL.
A 6-foot-1, 210-pound winger, Sadowy has appeared in 51 career ECHL games since 2016-17 and shows 41 points (19-22 - 41) and 51 PIM. He added four points (3-1 - 4) in nine games during his Kelly Cup Playoff debut last season.
Originally drafted by San Jose in the third round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and acquired by Detroit in May 2016, Sadowy has logged 51 career games with the Griffins since 2016-17, posting six points (4-2 - 6) and 27 PIM. He skated in 13 games with Grand Rapids in 2017-18 and made his Calder Cup Playoff debut in Game 5 of the Central Division Semifinals.
Yates, 23, has played in two games with the Griffins during his rookie campaign and recorded four PIM. He made his pro debut with Grand Rapids at the end of the 2017-18 season and notched one assist in two appearances.
A four-year player at Cornell University, Yates appeared in 120 contests from 2014-18, producing 65 points (32-33 - 65), 30 PIM and a plus-20 rating. As a senior in 2017-18, he posted career highs in points (26), goals (13) and assists (13), helping the Big Red capture the Cleary Cup as the ECAC's regular season champion and earn a second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Grand Rapids faces its first three-in-three of the season this weekend, hosting Iowa and Milwaukee on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., respectively, before traveling to Cleveland on Sunday.
