The Connecticut Sun (8-4) were defeated by the Chicago Sky (6-7), 81-75 in Chicago on Thursday night. Connecticut will remain in Chicago to face the Sky again on Saturday, June 19 at 2pm EST.
Jonquel Jones missed her second game for the Sun while competing for the Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team. Bosnia defeated Belgium 70-55 in the first day of group play.
Connecticut held a 36-31 lead over Chicago at the half but the Sky opened up the third quarter and outscored the Sun 28-19. This marked a new season high points scored in the third quarter for Chicago. The Sky would also go on to outscore the Sun 22-20 in the fourth.
Jasmine Thomas played her 197th game in a Sun uniform and now sits tied at 6th with Lindsay Whalen for All-Time Games Played in franchise history. Thomas scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-14 from the field.
Kaila Charles started for the first time this season, the 8th time in her career. She scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds, her previous was six set against New York (9/1/20). Charles also shot a perfect 6-6 from the freethrow line.
Dewanna Bonner scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second double-double this season. This is also the 11th time she has scored in double figures on the year.
Natisha Hiedeman came off the bench and scored 13 points on 5-of-6 from the field. Nine of her points came in the second half, seven of which were scored in 3:17 in the fourth.
Emma Cannon scored a new season-high with eight points and scored a career-high two three-point field goals. She has scored three baskets from behind the arc in the last two games combined which marks the only ones of her career.
Brionna Jones recorded a team-high 12 rebounds which is the first time she's grabbed double digit rebounds this season. She also added nine points and shot 5-for-6 from the freethrow line.
Five Chicago players scored in double-figures. Kahleah Copper led the Sky with 18 points and grabbed a team-tying eight rebounds. Candace Parker added 15 points and eight rebounds as well as three assists. She also shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the freethrow line. Diamond DeShields and Courtney Vandersloot had 13 and 12 points, respectively. Vandersloot also added a game-high 10 assists and a game-high four steals. Allie Quigley scored 11 points and went 7-for-7 from the line coming off the bench.
Connecticut was outrebounded by Chicago 38-34 and was outscored 38-34 in the paint. The Sky had 21 second chance points to the Sun's 17.
