Connecticut Sun Convincingly Beat the Indiana Fever, 88-72

Indianapolis, IN - Tonight, the Connecticut Sun amassed their second consecutive win, beating the Indiana Fever, 88-72 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Sun was led by Tiffany Hayes who notched 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists in the outing.

1Q - The Connecticut Sun had a hot offensive start. After some back and forth between the two teams in the first five minutes of the half, the Sun went on a 12-0 run, forcing Indiana to take a timeout. With her second free throw at the 5:23 mark of the first quarter, Natisha Hiedeman eclipsed her 1,000th career point. Indiana was able to match Connecticut's scoring after the timeout, punctuated by a three-point buzzer beater from Aliyah Boston to end the quarter. The Sun were led in scoring by Tiffany Hayes and DeWanna Bonner, who both had nine points.

2Q - The Sun managed to completely stifle the Fever's offense, keeping them scoreless into the first timeout with 5:43 left in the second quarter. During that time, Alyssa Thomas hit yet another milestone, notching her 1,400th career rebound. DeWanna Bonner led the Sun in scoring in the first half with a stat line of 11 points and four rebounds.

3Q - The Sun came out of the locker room on the defensive, as Indiana started the third on a 12-4 run, forcing Connecticut to take a timeout. The Sun withheld the onslaught, scoring 14 points and holding the Fever to nine coming out of the timeout to increase their lead back to 20 points.

4Q - The fourth quarter was another back-and-forth battle for the Sun. With Connecticut's five starters on the bench for most of the quarter, the Sun's bench was able to show their skills. Olivia Nelson-Ododa finished the game with a double-double, tallying 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and a block with a 20+/- efficiency rating; while DiJonai Carrington finished the game with 11 points, two rebounds and two steals.

Indiana was led by Aliyah Boston, who had 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block.

Connecticut shot 49.2% (31-63) while Indiana shot 38.6% (22-57) from the floor in the game. The Sun outscored the Fever in points in the paint (40-20), fast break points (14-7), and bench points (30-17).

Sun Notes:

With her second free throw at the 5:23 mark of the first quarter, Natisha Hiedeman eclipsed her 1,000th career point.

Alyssa Thomas pulled down her 1,400th rebound with 6:09 left in the second quarter.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa notched her first double-double of the 2023 season.
